Mark 8:36 - For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
| I love to play Solitaire. Often times I lose track of time and play too many games…to the detriment of whatever else I need to get done in a day.
One day as I was playing, I noticed that I was moving a lot of cards around, but none were actually going to the top – you can’t win unless all of the cards get to the top bins, so all of the playing that I was doing was futile, worthless.
As I noticed this, I began to think about life in general, and I realized that sometimes I do a lot of things in a day, a lot of moving around, but none of it has eternal value.
Jesus said that without Him, we can do nothing. He was talking about “Kingdom Living” – allowing God – through the Holy Spirit – to live through us in order to bring us more into a likeness of Jesus; and just as important – to win others to Him and to eternal Life with Him.
I wonder if helping this friend, that friend and the other friend without giving them a glimpse of Jesus and His love for them isn’t like playing a losing game of Solitaire. I’m moving around a lot, and getting a lot done, but nothing is going on up ahead.
And that’s something to think about.

Dear Jesus, please help the time that I spend in a day to have eternal value. Forgive me for the time I waste, whether it’s playing games, or just not telling others about You. You died to give us abundant life. Please help me share that truth with the ones You’ve entrusted me. You are the Truth, You are the Way, and You are the Life. Amen.
