wonders why it's easy to wish "peace on earth" but difficult to practice it with people around us?

Peace With God

Romans 5:1-2 -- Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Peace is often an elusive feeling.  With the daily struggles we face, and the constant barrage of noise, irritations, time schedules, demands on our time, choices to be made, meals to fix, the daily news, music, telephone, television shows, etc -- all a cacophony that breaks our outer silence and, quite often, our inner peace.

However, peace with God isn’t an elusive feeling, it’s a standing fact.  We have peace with God because of our faith in Jesus.  His blood bought our freedom from the chaos of the inner struggles.  It may not always feel like it, or even seem like it, but I say it truly, peace is there.  Oftentimes it is hidden under the jumble of thoughts racing through our heads or the busy activities in which we find ourselves embroiled.

Look at the 7th word in the first verse of chapter 5 – “have”.  We HAVE peace with God.  It’s a present and future tensed verb.  Ongoing – we have peace, even when we don’t feel peaceful.  There is peace even when it doesn’t seem as if it’s there.

If it feels as if your peace is gone, don’t forget, we have access into this grace.  If the world around you is a jumbled up mess, enter into the quiet place.  Turn off the radio, the TV and any distraction you can.  Talk to the Lover of your soul.  Listen to the Designer of your life.  He wrote a book just for you, and is waiting every single minute of every single day for you to come to Him and talk with Him about it.

Then, after spending time with Him, you can stand, and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, because you know that He’s there.  He’ll calm the waves or calm the person.  He’ll be there, today, and He’s already there tomorrow.  He’s holding onto your hand to help you stand.  In Peace.

Oh Father, how often I forget that I don’t have to struggle through this life feeling as if the world is going crazy around me.  Feelings aren’t fact, and often change, but You never do.  Lord, remind me, in the battle, that you are there.  Remind me, when it’s quiet, that you are there.  Every day, in every way, You will never leave me nor forsake me.  I can have peace because You are the peacemaker.  Because of Jesus and in His name I pray, Amen.
