Clean as You Go

1 John 1:9 - "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

I used to work in a restaurant.  Actually, I’ve worked in several - but the one rule that was the hardest to keep when it was busy and the pace was fast, was to "clean as you go".  Otherwise, things were hard to find, and there would be nowhere clean to set things down.

I also enjoy cooking and baking, as a matter of fact, I sometimes cook 30+ meals at a time to stick in my freezer.  This is time consuming and takes some preparation, but I have found that the most important thing to do is to.....clean as I go, otherwise, I have nowhere to set things down, and the surface area where I prepare food is dirty and could contaminate my food.

Carpet d'Odorata

My children have a carpet
It's made from dirty clothes.
When I step into their rooms
I quickly hold my nose.

The books that lined the bookshelves
Are scattered on the floor,
Amid the piles of clothing
Blocking passage to the door.

I thought I'd found the kitten,
I thought I'd found the pup,
I hoped it was a lintball
When it just would not get up.

I know I put a bed in there
I recognize that lump!
My children must sleep some place else -
This is the city dump!

I have 3 sons.....growing up, their rooms were pretty much disaster areas, and short of calling in the Nat'l Guard to find those children, I tried to teach them that the best way and the easiest way to have a *somewhat* orderly room is to clean as they go.

The principle works the same with our Spiritual lives.  We get busy with things, and quite often we forget to stop what we are doing and take care of the sins that place stumbling blocks in not only our path but also in the paths of those who are watching us.

Unfortunately, if we allow sins to stack up, often we forget about them later when we DO pray, and they remain in our souls - laying there until Christ brings them to our attention.  David said, "Search my heart and see if there be any wicked way" - he knew the necessity of having a clean heart.

Christ said that if we confess our sins, He is FAITHFUL to forgive them....not some of them but all of them, but it is our job to take the time to talk with Him about them - not justify them, not excuse them....confess them.   And then He will start the cleansing process to mold us to fit the image that He has created for us.

But only if we are willing to clean as we go.

Create in me a clean heart,

Oh God;

And renew a right spirit within me.

                       -King David- Psalm  51:10

My Dear God, please remind me that I need to renew myself with You every minute of every hour of every day.  Thank You for setting me free from the burden and power of sin.  I love You Lord.  Amen
