This is my all time favorite verse. I have read it dozens of times and each time I read it, I am struck with something new and wondrous.
The first and foremost amazing thing to me is that the Creator of the universe formed man with His own two hands. Then He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.
Did you catch that? Man didn’t all of a sudden HAVE a soul, he became a living soul. We don’t HAVE a soul, we ARE a soul. Who we are is wrapped up in this tent of a body. We are “spirit beings with an earthly body”. We are living beings, souls in an “earthsuit”.
Our outward appearance gives people a physical description, our soul tells who we are. God created the shell of us with His hands – unique in all of creation because we are fashioned by the hand of God. All of the rest of creation was spoken into being, but the Creator used His hands for His greatest creation.
Jeremiah 31:3 – I loved thee with an everlasting love, therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.
As He was shaping Adam He put into Adam the DNA for each of us. As He looked on the face of the one He loving formed, I wonder if each of our faces wasn’t superimposed over Adam’s face and He loved each of us, individual by individual.
Then --- with the first act of CPR, God leaned forward and with the kiss of life, God breathed in Adam’s nostrils, and man àeach of usß became a living soul.
Loved, fashioned and created by the God of the Universe, the desire of our soul is for a deeper fellowship and communion with the Lover of our soul because He breathed it into us Himself.
