The Virtuous Woman Series, Part 15

 Build Him Up

Proverbs 31:23 - Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

In Bible times, the gates to the city were opened during the day and shut at night. They were open during times of peace, shut during war. The important people of the city sat in the gateway, watching who and what came in and who and what went out. They gossiped, they traded, marriages were arranged, divorces obtained....all in the gate.
The husband of our Woman of God was known in the gates. He sat among the important people. They have said that behind every important man is a good woman.  We have discovered this to be true of the Proverbs 31 Woman. She was behind her husband all the way.
I believe though that our husbands don't have to have their names in headlines for us to make them know they are important. The best gift we can give them is to treat them as if they belong "in the gate". The best gift we can give our children is to show them how important their father is to us.

While woman have a built in need to be loved, men have a built in need to be respected.  Our actions and words all show our true feelings for him.  What do we have to say about him? Do we build him up? Do we encourage him? Do we praise him? How about behind his back? When he's at work and the phone rings, do his good works echo from our mouths? If his friends were to hear about his exploits, would he want to hear about them? Would we WANT him to hear what we've said?

Our husbands do sit "in the gates". Some of them have positions of importance at work. They should all have positions of importance at home.
