Julie Andrews played the role of a woman who had busy hands. As I was praying about what to write, I kept remembering "The Sound of Music". Have you ever seen it?
The movie is about a nun who is hired as a nanny for a widower with a household full of children. She taught the children to sing, made their play clothes out of curtains, and understood that children and fun just seem to go together.

Set during World War II, she ended up marrying the father, escaped over the hills to eventually arrive in the US. (This movie was based on a real life nun who really did have all this happen to her. She and her new family, the Von Trapps, sang here in America).

| Julie played another interesting character, this one fictional. Mary Poppins arrived at the Darling Home and set the household straight. She taught the mother that her children needed her attention, the father that his family was his #1 priority, and the children? Well, she played with the children again in this movie.
"What is going to last forever? What is going to count in the kingdom of God? Wood, hay, stubble or gold. Those are the choices we have every day as we live our lives out. Everything we do is going to pass through God's refining fire. Of all our deeds, the golden ones will be the only ones that don't burn. The rest will be ashes."

Looking well to the ways of the household means that I, as the wife and mom, understand the ways of my family. My time is spent with them, getting to know them, playing with them, talking with them, sharing and living Bible principles. Singing with them, exploring the great outdoors, putting slugs in a jar to see how the foot moves.

The kids whose mom spends time with them are less likely to be wandering the streets finding trouble. Things are too interesting at home.
TV, the telephone, computers, and books are yeast that grow in the bread of idleness. Idle time seems to breed more idle time - one more game, one more show, one more page, one more call. Pretty soon the day is shot, a week has gone by, and we missed time with our family.

Ladies, our fulfillment is our family. God first, family second. They are going to grow up and leave us - all too soon. What are we going to have to look back on? What are they going to tell their kids about us? Do their memories include looking at the wonders of God's world? Is our husband just the guy who brings home the paycheck, or is he someone we enjoy spending time with?
Eternity is a long time to live with ashes.

Dear Father, priorites are sometimes so easy to get mixed up. You said, "Redeem the time, for the days are evil". These kids You have given us to raise for You are so precious in Your sight, Lord, help us to remember to spend time with them and teach them to put You first. Thank You for Your grace and Mercy. Thank You for taking the time to live and die for me and then live again to live in me. Amen
